If you are a college student interested in working in public service and seeing how an elected official’s office impacts its local community, Representative Jennifer Gong-Gershowitz is seeking individuals to fill paid internships at her District office in Glenview. The Interns will have the opportunity to learn firsthand about constituent services, community outreach and the development of legislation.
The District office serves as the Representative’s main contact point for constituent services. Some of the services covered by the District office on behalf of our constituents include; veteran’s affairs, unemployment, Medicaid, taxes and dealing with various other State agencies. The District office also listens to constituents concerns regarding legislation, assists constituents in locating resources, attends events within the district and handles community outreach programs.
The District Interns will work with the Chief of Staff and Outreach Director to ensure effective running of the District office. The Interns will perform an array of tasks in support of staff. This will include answering phones, distributing mail, greeting visitors, updating databases, researching legislation, staffing the Representative at local events, attending community office hours, attending meetings on behalf of the office as well as other tasks that may come up.
The District Interns must be able to effectively communicate, be able to work closely with a small team, be comfortable speaking with constituents in person and over the phone and be passionate for public service.
