HB218 Passes the House

Dear Neighbor:

This evening HB218 passed out of the House by a vote of 71 to 40 and now heads to the Senate for consideration.

Marketing campaigns sponsored by gun manufacturers often depict wanton violence, a weapon’s ability to cause egregious bodily harm, and glorification of extreme paramilitary behaviors, effectively promoting violent criminal activity.

HB218 is designed to hold gun manufacturers accountable and ensure families devastated by gun violence have a path to justice in Illinois civil court.

The scourge of gun violence in our communities is born from a myriad of causes and to effectively address it, we must approach it from many different angles. HB218 is an important step down the path toward safer communities.

I thank Attorney General Kwame Raoul, my colleagues in the House Firearm Safety and Reform Work Group and my colleagues in the Senate for their hard-work on this important piece of legislation.

You can monitor progress of HB218 as it moves to the Senate HERE.

Sincerely,

Representative Jennifer Gong-Gershowitz
