Gong-Gershowitz Responds to Governor’s Address, Remains Focused on State Finances, Property Tax Reform

GLENVIEW, Ill. – State Rep. Jennifer Gong-Gershowitz, D-Glenview, issued the following statement Wednesday after Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s annual budget address:

“Paying down debt, eliminating Illinois’ bill backlog and fully-funding our pension payments are essential to the fiscal health of our state, and I am encouraged to hear that Governor Pritzker is committed to doing just that. Illinois’ economic future depends on continuing to craft fiscally-responsible budgets that fulfill our responsibility to people in every community in our state.

“For the first time in decades, Illinois is turning a corner and we are putting our state’s fiscal house in order, as evidenced by our recent credit ratings increases.  I am absolutely committed to keeping us on that path through tough decision-making and smart choices. We must also identify innovative solutions to address the burden of rising property taxes imposed by local governments.

“While we work to improve our state’s finances, I will continue to fight for more affordable health care, more badly-needed assistance to small businesses impacted by COVID-19 and to ensure that our local schools have what they need to provide our kids with a world-class education.

“We have a lot of work to do in the coming weeks and months. I am more committed than ever to tackling these crucial priorities on behalf of my community and the entire state of Illinois.”
