GLENVIEW, Ill. – State Rep. Jennifer Gong-Gershowitz, D-Glenview, released the following statement after being appointed as Chair of the House Judiciary – Civil committee on Wednesday night:
“At this moment in history, I am very proud to be the first Asian American Chair of the Judiciary – Civil Committee. We find ourselves a profound moment of opportunity to rethink and reshape existing structures to be more equitable, more efficient, and more effective for the people of Illinois.
“As an immigration and human rights attorney, my life’s work has focused on protecting the rights of those whose voices aren’t heard. As Chair of the Judiciary – Civil Committee, I am in a unique position to continue that work.
“I want to thank the previous Chair, Representative André Thapedi, for the hard work he has done moving our state forward, and Speaker Welch, for putting his trust in me and for the opportunity to Chair the Judiciary – Civil Committee.”
