Intern Spotlight:
This summer I am thrilled to have four interns working in my district office! Hopefully you will get the chance to meet them as we are out in the District the next few months!
Marco Alvarado is a rising junior at Loyola University Chicago studying Political Science and Psychology. At Loyola Marco helped found Honors Student Government and has a passion for public policy and government. He has previously interned at Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky’s office and is excited about the opportunity to work in a different level of government. Marco is interested in studying social justice initiatives, mental health awareness, immigration advocacy, and consumer protection policy during his time at our office. He aspires to enter the legal field and apply his knowledge of government to create meaningful change.
Maya Crystal is a rising senior at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign double majoring in Political Science and Gender and Women’s Studies and minoring in Jewish Studies and Informatics. At school, she is the president of LGBTJew, a member of interfaith in action, and a student senator in the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Senate. She is excited to work in constituent services and help connect our residents with the services they need. Maya is incredibly passionate about higher education and looking at ways to support our public universities. In the future, Maya aspires to work as an advocate or policymaker in Illinois creating policies that will better the lives of all Illinoisans.
Sarah Kwon is a recent graduate of Glenbrook South High School (GBS) and is planning on majoring in Politics at Princeton University in the fall. At GBS, she was an active member of Student Council, serving as the Student Body President. Sarah is highly interested in issues surrounding migration, poverty alleviation, and education. She is excited to delve deeper into such topics through research and hands-on experience of working with constituents. Sarah aspires to work at any level of government or pursue a career in the legal profession. Her only hope is that she will be able to affect tangible change in the areas she’s most passionate about.
Lauren Nash is a rising junior at The College of William and Mary where she is studying government and environmental science. She also completes research with the conservation department and serves as an Orientation Leader. Lauren is looking forward to working with residents of the 17th District because of her passion for helping others and providing a fundamental service to the community. Lauren is very passionate about women’s rights and environmental conservation. She looks forward to researching these topics in greater depth and gaining greater practical experience with both subject areas. In the future, Lauren would like to pursue a career in the legal profession, possibly in environmental law.
